Day 5.

Day 5. Wednesday 18 July - OLDEN

Sammy awoke about 5am and saw out the window we were passing some really high mountains and a narrow stream of water for us to sail through. She woke me by sliding the balcony door open and bump as it stopped opened wide. Lovely scenery she exclaimed as she clicked away on her camera. I got up and joined her. We took a number of pictures and then went to the 7th floor to take even more from both sides.

It was really cold. Why don't the tourist agencies tell you to expect cold weather in July in Norway. My you would not have to carry all those summer clothes and open shoes. We could find no where telling us to dress for winter and take warm clothing. A real let down.

I had to charge my camera battery. So I took some pictures with my Galaxy and ones from the TV mast camera on my Nokia. Sammy was able to keep clicking until she could not stand the cold and came back in there cabin. It was now near 7 am. we were passing so high mountains sticking out of the water right in front of our window. Unless you went outside you could not see the top and the bottom. Anyone not up was missing all this and would have to rely on pictures from others.

At Olden we realised that it was not a large town. it was housing nicely parted from each other and quite a long walk from one end until the other. Not much to see or to visit from the ship. I guess the best to see would be on one of the tours. But it was a nice area and somewhere I would like to live had I no responsibilities and could afford to buy food. (Food prices are really high. Clothing is about the same as the UK. A cup of coffee about £8)

We hired  Nissan Terrano that had seen better days and took to the mountains. Taking many stops and as many pictures. As I was the driver Roger took my camera. There were so many wonderful sights along the way. The roads were so narrow I had to stop every time we met another vehicle. We got back within 4 hours and the whole experience cost us about £23 per couple. This was definitely the best way to see the area. I could stop at a where I could find a  place along the way and everyone enjoyed it.

We were back for lunch and all this activity had sent us scurrying back to our cabins for a rest. at 4pm we met at the Antrim for a pre dinner drink.

We got ready for our dinner wearing black and white. Met up at the dining room. After dinner we went to a show. listened to Anna Stolli. very nice singing voice and enjoyable show. We sat far away due to the sound being far to laud. We had noticed that before in this bar. After we met the others and then retired early as the next day was also going to be full.
